Can anyone describe in detail the Iron Triad?

All I know is the The Iron Triad is made up of iron, cobalt, and nickel.

That should be enough. The metals are all magnetic, and many of the special "steels" are composed of steel (iron and carbon eutectic) and the other two elements.
