In communism all property and business is owned in common by the people and managed under control of the government. The economy and production is controlled by the government.
Cuba is a good example of a Communist state - although they suffer under embargoes from some countries and receive preferential trade from others, so it is difficult to judge their success.
In socialism, private ownership of property and business is ok, but certain businesses, particularly ones that provide services to the public, such as energy, transportation, medicine, are owned by the government.
France could be said to be socialist although it has lately been privatizing some industries that had been under government ownership, while keeping others.

This is more for the people saying that we're all greedy and selfish at heart. We're not its that we want the freedom to choose who we give to and how much. When you take away a certain amount from people who work, they're going to be naturally irate about it. Expecting everyone to share with complete strangers and people they like or dislike merely because someone else says they should is foolishness. Greed isn't about keeping what is the product of your own labor but doing so at the expense of others. If I build my house and spend my money on it, not allowing others to live there is my right. It doesn't make me greedy or selfish at all.

Socialism and Communism works for the poor because they wanted to advance in life by being able to get even with the rich. Technically, the rich will be divested of their wealth and these pass to the poor people to be equally treated under the system. Thus, it is the workers who clamor for change to have equality and not the rich people.

LMAO. John b stole my exact answer.
Well anyway the idea is that everyone contributes to society and everyone lives equaly.
The goverment basicly runs everything and you just work.
The reason it does not work is that it tottaly violates all "laws" of human nature.
Humans are greedy and want credit.
I do not want to work my a** off in construction and make as much as the guy who sits around on his a** all day. (Just an example)
And then the leaders mess it up even more by stealing from the goverment......

The economy is centrally planned.
People produce according to their ability and consume according to their need.
Of course, for the system to work properly, the planners need to be benevolent and omnicient and the people need to be god-like. It's kind of like both capitalism and democracy in that way.

For Socialism and Communism to work, people need to work for the benefit of their fellow people. You know, truly embrace the Golden Rule. But people are inherently greedy and selfish, so free market capitalism tends to be more efficient.

... those are at least the 'goals' of the CPUSA.
.
socialism and communism... erm, they try to sugarcoat things - thats why they have so many orgs and groups with 'workers' and 'people for' - trying to make it sound decent... it claims to eradicate social and economic classes, but rather divides them into only two - the people that trust and the people who make you trust... it all starts out by pretending to care for and/or about the oppressed (usually to the point where they continue to repress them in order to receive support) - most of the things i've witnessed - socialism tends to be a precursor to communism (yah, i'll get ripped for saying that)... it plays off emotion and hardship and lack of wanting to take self-responsibility. it's saying, "hey, you're too stupid to take care of yourself... this is how you will now live"

Poorly.
As a matter of fact, you shouldn't use the words 'socialism' or 'capitalism' with 'work' in the same sentence.

You are basically a slave to government. You work to give your money to the government so that they can redistribute the wealth.
