In a personal responce the teacher is asking for analysis but giving you liberty to base your analysis on your own experiences and use the first person voice ( " I was dissapointed by the author's. . . ").

Teachers are going to be looking for a couple of things in a personal response.

1. Your opinions should be strong, even bold, and they should be based on your own experiences and gut reactions. Make connections between your life and the book: "This character reminds me of. . ."
2. Your opinons must be supported with examples from the book.
3. Do not summarize. The teacher has read the book a bazillion times. They don't need you to tell them what happened.

good luck !

A personal response would be how the book made you feel. Did it remind you in any way of your own life or the lives of someone around you? Did it make you feel happy? Sad? Mad? That is what you should write about. Pax - C

I think personal response would be your opinion of it just like what would be your personal response to a movie.
