I choose the latter.
The reason I ask this is because my friend asked me yesterday why I had so few friends on Facebook (150 or so) and I told him it was because I actually know the people that I add.
This is compared to people like him who have 1000+ friends, most of whom he doesn't know or will never meet in real life.

I have about a good sized handful of really great friends. Friends that I know would help me out if I were ever in a situation where I needed them. I agree, I would much rather prefer a few really good friends than a lot of acquaintances. Although I do love and cherish all the friends I have, no matter how close or far apart our relationship is.

I agree with you I would want to take the handful of close friends. I also have people who have like a million friends on myspace and they try to show off with that. When in reality they know about 30 or 40 of them. I guess some one needs to tell them its not a popularity contest.

Those arent real friends that he has...those are acquaintances...or not exactly even that since he's never met them and prob never will. "Friends" is a term that gets thrown around too loosely. I have a handful of really close friends that I can call true friends. I wouldnt have it any other way.

A handful of close friends is what I have and what I choose.
I read once..that if you are lucky if you have 3 close friends.

A handful of really good friends. I'd much rather know that I have friends that are going to be there for me in a tough spot than to have friends that don't really know or care about me.

Handful of close.
Frankly, I don't consider 150 as "close"!!! "CLOSE" would be 5 to maybe 10 at the most.
Everyone is entitled to my opinion.
