Does anyone know what causes lumps/masses in tropical fish, esp. Silver Dollars?

My Silver Dollar (tropical fish) developed a small swelling on its belly, which has expanded slowly over 2 wks. The fish is eating and seems to be doing well. However, the lump is growing and I cannot diagnose the problem. Any thoughts?
