This question I ask is something that comes up with sports especially.. I have coached basketball and softball, and to often I hear that everyone should play! Even those who do not show up for practices, or who have little or no ability athletic's wise. When I played sports, if you wanted to be a starter, you had to be out the other players trying for that spot! Now..we say everyone is equal ability and this is not true! We are sending the wrong message to our youth in that, when they get out into this sometimes cold world, the reality is that someone will be better then them at school, in jobs they may be trying to get, and life in general! I am all for instilling confidence, but sometimes I think we go overboard a bit.. Lets be honest.. We are not all equal in everything are we?

no, i agree with you. it's supposed to be some kind of self-esteem thing but coddling kids and wrapping them up in cotton wool doesn't help them. self-esteem is gained through achieving goals and feeling good about what you have achieved, so they should be encouraged to find something they're good at and develop in that area. that being said, there's nothing wrong with trying things out, or doing something you aren't good at but you enjoy anyway.

There is a difference in the term equal or equality. I take equal in the sense of human rights, that is we are all humans and should be treated socially and legally the same.

As for "sports", kids should be encourage to play, develop their coordination, and have fun, this is the idea behind supporting them in schools. True not everyone has the same "natural" ability but they hould have the chance to develop it.

I will tell my boys or girls they are equal, cause i believe in them to work together to get some thing done, even the weaker one will have their goal faster, the younger one will looked up to the older one. and.even on field or home. They build a bond of trust of each other company

We live in a country that makes us believe that the girls are the weaker link ,some how it now debating bout how if a guy got went to army carry rifles that weight bout 5kg, don't the girls carry the same weight a sack of rice that is 5kg?

If I say girls are better then guys they are not, if i say boys are better then girls they are not... if i kept to side aren't I am being bias? I love all the same. That also apply to the sport we loves

With proper understanding that that the two sexes have their own qualities to exceed in their goals and they do have have each other to watch each other backs.

Because physical activity is so essential for a healthy life, I think we are obliged to find a way for them to participate in sports. You don't need to include the good players with the bad, they just get picked on. We don't mix light weight boxers with heavy weight but both get a chance to play. It is up to the schools and those publicly funded sport programs to provide for that "light weight" sport opportunity. This is the same as providing spot opportunity for girls and women.

There's nothing wrong with people being equal BUT different, which means some people are better than others in certain things but one person is not a better human being because he is better at a certain thing, that's the message.
