The Giants were the first of the two franchises in NYC - following the tradition of being named after the baseball team (at varying times there was a Cleveland Indians and Philadelphia Athletics football team among others) - they have been around since the early 1920s.
The Jets were originally tne NY Titans in the AFL - they were renamed the Jets when Sonny Werblin bought the team (and soon after drafted and signed Joe Namath to play QB).
The two franchises seem to be doing well financially, of course it helps that they share a stadium (and the costs that are associated with that),

Why there are two teams that represent NY is unknown.
The Giants play in the NFC & the Jets play in the AFC.
Either the owners pick the team name or they have some kind of contest where people can make suggestions and the most popular is picked.

so sorry, but new york does not have any football teams, new jersey has 2 teams. both the jets and giants pulled out of new york years ago, where have you been ?

no they won't, it would be to much. the league is only considering having on new team and they want it in Las Angeles

NEW YORK, only has one team, the BUFFALO BILLS. the GIANTS and, JETS, play in EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ., now.
