Most men DON'T oppose women having legal rights. At least not in the US. Is there a specific 'right' you have in mind? I may actually oppose something you consider a right, but as it stands, I have no clue what you are talking about.

I believe that it has everything to do with culture. It was not only men whom opposed women having legal rights, it was also women. For example, in the middle east, it is largely women who encourage and even enforce other women wearing veils and supporting the unequal laws between the sexes. It is also challenging to go against the beliefs of the cultural environment you were brought up in. If women were not educated, rarely worked, almost never supported themselves, then it is understandable that it would appear that they are inferior to men. Therefore, in this cultural habitual way of thinking, it could be considered dangerous and lead to an instability if women (a seemingly inferior sex) were given equal rights.

I don't think most men did. But those who opposed it just didn't want a change to their status - not so much the change of the status of women.

Not very long ago, American women were legally considered chattel. Personal property is a type of property and in the common law system, personal property is called chattel which is differentiated from real property (real estate).
In many countries and religions, women are still considered chattel.
Glad I was not alive during this time.

how are you able to provide extra criminal rights to men in those situations without infringing on the female? that could be a complicated subject. There are no ordinary conclusions that would make the two gender satisfied on a similar time.

Because humans are still like little children in the whole scheme of things. And everyone thinks that they have to be king of the hill.
