I'd say pretty much Both!
I like to listen so as to learn and show the other person the respect of being interested in what he/she would have to say - and I expect in return the reciprocity for the courtesy and interest I offer.

id say both,but if listened enough about the same ol thing too many times,id rather talk to curve the subject onto something else without offending that person.(relationship dramas that never ever change)
