BMW brakes lights have always been a problem. I wouldn't call them false warnings but sometimes they can warn you of a pending failure. I would pull out the bulbs and carefully inspect them for corrosion. Then I would check them all to make sure they are all of the same type of bulb. (What I mean is that the same bulb can be made of different metals and I've seen that freak out the computer system and cause the bulb warning light on the dash come on. e.g. The one installed in the left is a nickel base bulb and the one on the right is a brass base bulb.) Then there is the bulb socket holder assembly that are common problems on these cars. They are about $35 for the part.

Good luck.

I have the same issue over the same taillight but I have not been able to track down the exact cause of the issue. Several people on the e46 forums has found that the problem lies with corrosion in the wiring harness or on the contacts at the bulb assembly. Others say that the wiring grommet going to the trunk lid is bad and had stripped some wires. No one really knows the cause of this issue.

Try some troublshooting techniques:

Swap your bulbs from one side to the other, including the bulbs on the lid of the trunk. I did this and the issue hasn't reoccurred for the last three weeks. If the problem comes back on the same side, then the issue isn't a bad bulb and you should try to clean the contacts after that.

What the hell are you talking about? Open door screen thing? Why do people buy cars and have no idea how to drive let alone use a power window switch. Maybe grandma fell out of the car and the door is not shut properly. Take it to the shop and get it looked at.

You know, I normally would hate to read the exact same kind of answer that I'm giving now, but with you being so clueless to even describe what the problem is (and confusing the heck out of us), I would say

BRING IT TO THE DEALER

... because even if someone gives you the correct answer, chances are, you wouldn't know what to do with it.

As for your car's manual, go to http://www.bmwusa.com/ click on "Owners" and select "Owner's Circle". Create an account for yourself and your car, you will then be able to download the manual for your car.

Its probably a short in the relay. Just replace the relay and see if that takes care of the problem.
