He's a practicing Christian.

I would feel fine. I think he'd have some extra cultural insight that would help us better deal with terror.

Ah, rousing the rabble, I see. If we judged every person by who they were related to, most of the politicians would be out of jobs. Is HE a Muslim? I sincerely doubt it, but his family history may make him a viable person to speak with and open dialog with moderates in the Muslim world. This is similar to the 1960 election of JFK when his Catholicism was questioned and whether or not he would answer to the Pope. His response was that he would uphold the Constitution and work with the Congress and the Judicial system (the other two branches of government that Bush systematically disallows) as President. I'd worry more about Mitt Romney's Mormonism as a problem than I would Obama being a Muslim.

He is not a muslim. And I could care less what their religion background is as long as they do a good job. Ofcourse I dont feel he is experienced enough to be president yet so I wouldn't vote for him personally.

Senator Obama says he's a Christian and the other members of that church affirm that. But, I would have no problem with a Muslim as President. I lived through an era where the Ku Klux Klan was carrying out acts of terror and we had Presidents who were Protestants. Al Queda and the rest of the Salafist Jihadists are the Ku Klux Klan of Islam. So, I'm not going to discriminate against any member of the Islamic Umma because of those whack jobs.

There's nothing wrong with it. There was huge controversy over Kennedy because he was Catholic and therefore had ties to foreign power (the pope). Being President isn't about what you do on your Sabbath, it is about leading a country.

And to Soccerkid... there are lots of American born Muslims. Your religion doesn't say anything about the country you live in.

Well, I personally don't care what religion somebody is. I only care about what they intend to do (and Obama fails that test, as he is pro-war, pro-anti-trust, and pro-socialist medicine).

However, I did see a poll a while back that said that somewhere slightly over 50% of Americans won't vote for a Muslim. However, about 65% wouldn't vote for an atheist, which puts that into perspective.

I think enough has been made about his Muslim background.
Obama is a Christian. Just as there are many types of Christians, I have to assume there are many types of Muslims. Our constitution makes no restriction for religion. So I don't either.

This question addresses Obama as potentially President. Personally i couldn't vote for him because he's a novice in the world of politics, second, his ideas and my ideas are too far apart. he is currently in a church that is some sort of christian, so that's OK with me. A man's religion is one thing and it depends how he runs the office based upon his religion. We hear of NO religion when it comes to the great Satan Hillary, but we here of religious concerns when it comes to Romney, a Mormon, or Obama. I want to elect someone who can place their hand ON the Bible....

only he's a christian, not a muslim.

he's a member of the united church of christ.

saying he has "a muslim background" is entirely inaccurate. that's like saying a 10 year old is a marxist.

same way I feel about anyone with religion in their background. I hope they keep it separate from politics.

Same way I hope Christian fundies don't blow us all up in the name of their stupid revelations.
