What are your viewpoints on pedophilia?

Depends. If a young girl or boy is in total love with an older person (maybe they are under the limit of 16/17) They need to shut the hell up. If a young child is approached by a molester, they scream. If you consent you cant very well say they came onto you ^.- some people just cry pedo when they consented. Little trouble makers. All in all, pedophilia is something that cannot be helped in some. Younger people to them are appealing, or children. Either or. Don't totally hold it against them. Cause I know If Hannibal Lecter was a teacher or older friend of mine I WOULD WANT HIM to be a pedo. :P I love the man ^-^ eeeeeeee.
Closing statement- if your a pedo, stay away from kids. If you are 1 yr shy of being an adult and like someone older >.< You better shut up and stick with the relationship >.O trouble makers.

Clearly it is a despicable atrocity primarily because of the long term and devastating psychological damage it does to the victim but it is important to note that most if not all pedophiles were victims themselves and are perpetuating the cycle of abuse. It is not so much about sexual attraction as it is about power and the pedophile is attempting to regain the sense of personal power that they were stripped of when they were abused.

Chic, If you really want to understand what pedophilia is all about you should read "Victims No Longer" by Mike Lew. its actually the book that will explain it best and you should also know that not one of the other answerers understands what a pedophile is or anything about the subject. I have a living relative who was a victim of a pedophile and my family has over the years become experts on this much misunderstood subject. It's not what everyone thinks it is and although their anger and vehemence is justified, it is misguided and some of these answerers have unwittingly revealed that they are victims themselves and are "hating" pedophiles for the wrong reasons or for personal reasons that they themselves are not aware of. It's wrong any way you look at it.

A lot of people who are not against pedophilia argue that if both parties consent, it's not wrong.

Not only are these people completely delusional (a child is unable to give consent... they can't be held responsible for such decisions) but they need to understand the law.

It is illegal for a minor to engage in sexual intercourse.

Children are very easily persuaded and misled. Even through adolescence, they are developing and learning how to be responsible and make their own decisions. It's a critical time in their life in which they are very vulnerable. They are being educated as to what is right and what is wrong, learning good versus evil, etc. During that time, it is easy for an adult to convince a child that it's okay to "feel certain feelings" and want to "do things" with older people. That it's just "exploring" and it's "okay". They are coaxing the child into something that underaged people are absolutely not knowledgable in. Children don't know the law, they don't know about the age of consent. They hardly understand their bodies! How is it *right* for an adult and a child to have any kind of physical relationship?

Pedophiles are the most selfish people... looking for sexual gratitude from an innocent person who is not mature enough to make their own choices. It's wrong, it's illegal, it's completely inhuman. Case closed.

I have no sympathy for pedophiles. The victim in these situations are the innocent children whose childhood and life is often altered forever in one way or another.

I do not believe that pedophiles are reformed. Yes, some may control their urges for a while,but I do not believe they change truly. In the area where I live( small towns) there are quite a few. They are listed in the local newspaper to inform parents that they are living nearby.. Some may disagree with that, but I believe parents have the right to know that someone who has been deemed a threat to young children and has been a repeat offender, is living close by. Again, the pedophile is not the victim here, but the kids whose trust and innocence, and sometimes, life, is taken away from them or changed drastically for ever.

My normally empathetic nature stops when it comes to adults abusing children for their own sick and selfish gratification. If we adults do not attempt to protect our children, then we have failed them in the greatest way possible.

I have at times witnessed the results of the pain caused to young children, and their families, by pedophiles. Again, in my opinion, the kids are the victims here.We should never forget that! If they have done it once, they will almost assuredly do it again.

I don't consider attraction to a person of BREEDING AGE to be pedophilia. An adult attracted to a 16 year old is not pedophilia. Making under 17 illegal is a manmade law. The practice started in order to prevent families from the burden of marrying off a daughter with a "reputation." There was no "Uncle Sam" to bail them out. How many teenage girls know how to pick the right kind of guy to be a good husband? The laws are also meant to protect these girls from themselves.
Attracted to children who are obviously not in puberty is indeed pedophilia. In that case, I support execution for those pervs.
Pedophilia is so unatural, that it is taboo in even the most primitive societies. Even wild animals tend to not touch their own, younger kind if they can't breed yet.

There is no cure for pedophilia.In my opinion,it's a form of mental illness.

Pedophiles can learn to control their sexual urges through therapy,but there is no cure.

And there is always a possibility that a pedophile can re-offend.

Statistics claim that the average pedophile will have about 300 victims before getting caught.Pedophiles are very clever, and are good at intimidating their victims.

A mistake by nature yet unlike gays who harm no one they destroy lives and in some cases kill children. There is no way they can be allowed to live in society so there are 2 options prison or death and even tho I bet they don`t like the fact they are sick I still go for the later myself. I ripped into someone on YA tonite for saying he wanted to go out trick or treating as a pedophile. I got a violation for it. I hate the fucking bastards even more now than I did then.
