Seems like a rip off to me

From what I understand, alimony was traditionally awarded to the partner that stayed home to raise children and/or run the household and did not have employment they could live on.

I did not accept alimony, even tho I was a stay at home mom. It didn't feel right to me. And child support has never been increased, either, in 8 years. So there are some of us out there that try to be as fair as possible when the tradgedy of a failed marriage comes their way.

Yes, it DOES seem that way, doesn't it! Hey, that is what Divorce is ... when one party has to PAY for the MISTAKE of a relationship where the other was NOT as committed in the first place (or only wanted money, things, etc).

No it's when one person in a two party contract is in breech or fails to keep their end of the deal and is orders by a judge to pay. Rarely is it a mistake. The one in the wrong knows what they are doing all along.

No. Usually the one who makes the mistake has to pay for it.
