It's something I used in the science lab. I looked through a little hole and pointed it at something with light and then the colors showed up at certain numbers. I think it's something spectro...any ideas?

Sounds like a spectroscope to me. What you are describing sounds like some kind of simplified version of the instrument designed for simple laboratory demonstrations.

For lots of information including pictures and diagrams, run an internet search on "spectroscope" and "spectrograph."

You looked through a spectroscope.

A similar instrument that has a built in camera to take pictures of the colors is a spectrograph.

Some people might say spectrometer to mean either or both of these instruments.

sounds like you used a light spectrometer that determines what a substance or element the light is shining through

Spectrophotometer, no sure what the translation is. O maybe it's a colourímeter. I don't know which of them you used to use.

'Spectrometer'. It's used for measuring various wavelengths of light.
