Yes it is fair. Is it fair for a guy not to own up to his responsibilities and leave his child's mother with all of the expenses? If these dead beat dad's starting acting like men and owned up to their responsibilites our government and legal system wouldn't have to impose these harsh measures. You ask is it fair? Heck yeah!!! It's very fair. Peace and God bless.

I don't think that the dl should be suspended. Its absurd because just how will they get around to going to work to make the money they owe. Makes no sense to me. I don't know what is the state's reason for it.
Then again, what is considered an extremely viable reason as to why a person would forget that they have children and that those kids need to be fed, clothed, educated, etc?
Possible Reasons
1.Not making enough money? Nope, get another job to support the children you brought into this world.
2. My baby momma takes the money for herself? Nope. You can present that in court. And as long as you are giving a check every month, you are untouchable by the courts. You can also sit down calmly and converse with the ex about the situation.
3. I can't even think of any other reasons why a man or woman cannot support their child financially.

NO this is not right. I understand that there are children all over this world suffering b/c parents do not pay their child support and for that those parents need punished but not to that extent for that exact reason you have stated that he lost his job. They need their pay garnished or some other remedy that the state or whoever should come up with. I DO feel sorry for all the parents out there who are owed money and maybe if I was in that position I would think differently but I just don't see the logic in the losing the license when that could in turn make you lose your job hence leaving you NO way to pay at all. I do think that there should be reprocussions though...Harsh ones if need be.

Well, it's my understanding that it only happens if they are not paying child support at all, but I could be mistaken. If he was working, I would assume he was paying?! I think there is a big difference when someone has been paying all along and then something happens (job change, move, ect) and then they miss a few months, versus someone who just has never paid.
I understand how frustrated your friend must have been. However, in our modern day and age, there are a lot of different means of transportation (buses, trains, taxis, friends). I find it hard to believe there was no way for him to get to work and keep his job.
So, to answer your question...I don't think it's right that people get away with not paying child support and helping to provide for children they created. I don't have a lot of sympathy for those who don't support their children.

I can not say this enough:
DOCUMENT ~ DOCUMENT ~ DOCUMENT everything!!!!!
***If you FRIEND pays directly to his ex then get a file and keep organized records of every child support payment. Like a copy of the check, money order ~ never give cash***
***Keep receipts of everything bought for the children because EVERYTHING you buy can be applied to child support payment***
In some cases it it better to go through the child support enforcement office because it holds both sides accountable BUT if you ever get behind on a payment they will become the child support payee's enemy and no matter what the x wife is doing will not matter cause THEY WANT THE MONEY.
KEEP GOOD RECORDS on visits, children behaviors, phone calls, money, time spent and not spent together & etc.
Here is an excellent site to help your friend know his rights.

Im not sure how suspending a driver license reflects child support, but yes it's fair. His priledges has been taken away because of him not taking care of his responsiblities. Im sure he could have been awarded a restricted license for him to go to work. My question is, if he had a job then why has he not made efforts to pay his back support? Tell ur friend he need to ask himself, " is it right or wrong to my kids that I do not want to pay what is owed them?"

sure it's right, i have an ex that owes almost $15,000 in child support. he has never paid and quits his job before they can get it out. people have to have some sort of punishment for not taking care of their kids, and going to jail won't help but maybe if they lose some freedom it will remind them that this isn't a choice. you can't just ignore your kids cause a relationship didn't work out. it takes two people make a child and with the cost of everything, it takes two to pay for it as well. besides their are other ways to get to work, losing a job because you don't have a licence only makes sense if the job was driving related. plenty of people take the bus.

I do not think it is the correct punishment for falling behind in child support payments. My ex-husband makes minimal support payments; however, I do depend on them to feed my kids. if he were to fall behind - i would be pissed. . . but preventing him from getting to work by taking his driver's license isn't the answer. ...and if he were to get caught driving on a suspended licence would only cause him to pay money out that could have gone to support payments. i don't think they should not be 'punhished' for their neglect in payments - I just don't think that is the appropriate punishment.
maybe interest! yeah, pay the custodial parent interest & late fees!!!

The reason this is done is to make people pay child support. Most people know if their drivers lic. are revoked they cant work nor can they go anywhere. If you have children you should help support them. Regardless of the situation between parents, children need to be taken care of. The didn't have the decision of being brought into this world.

If he was gamefully employed, in my state they take a little more each time so that it gets paid back a little at a time. I let the state handle mine so that I know she is getting paid and I won't be late with it. They are his kids and needs to take the resposibility but the license away?? How does he get over to see them? Doesn't make sense. If he isn't paying, he shouldn't see them anyway. They accomplished nothing by taking it away.
