I keep getting x=-48 howeveri do it but the calculater says its wrong?

4x + 2 = 5x + 50
- 48 = x is correct

4x+2=5(x+10)
4x+2=5x+50 (distribute)
4x-48=5x (minus 50 from both sides)
-48=x (minus 4x from both sides)
-48 sounds good to me.

4x+2=5x+50
2=x+50
-48=x
or
-192+2=-240+50
-190=-190
You're right, try putting in the parenthesis, or maybe you are forgetting to plug in the negative.

4x-5x=50-2
-x=48
x=-48
