I can understand if the clock time is low and the high scoring team wants to just end the game and not risk the ball, but I see teams who command a huge lead (8 points or more), yet will still do it! Why dont they attempt a long pass to possibly put even more points on the scoreboard and to possibly add to a QB and the receiver's ratings?

Its classless. If you know your going to win why run up the score? Why risk injury's to just run up the score? Thats just stupid.

Several reasons. First, if you dont need the points, you do not want to risk a turnover that could allow the team to get back into the game. Second, from a sportsmanship standpoint, you do not need to score meaningless points at the end of a football game... It is a issue of respect essentially. Finally, QB and other ratings/stats are something that only fans and fantasy football players care about, and it is not often statistics are a consideration in running up the score at the end of the game. A win is a win.

well, there is always risk of interception or fumble, but when there is a team dominating another and they have a ball at the end, it would be such a disrespectful move to score again just for ratings or to show how good your team is....they end the game and say ok we beat you and we arent a bunch of A HOLES so we are gonna end this in a nice way

I cant believe Im answering this, but why take a chance in injury or in turnover to pad stats. Its stupid. Dont ruin your season by a significant injury or cough the ball up and allow the other team score to tie or take the lead.

They do this to secure the win. It keeps the clock ticking. If they attempt a long pass they could possibly be intercepted and the other team may score. If the pass is incomplete, the clock stops. So to seal the victory they play it safe.

Sportsmanship, and there's always a chance a player could get hurt on that last play, especially if the defense are pi$$ed at you running up the score and decide to get revenge.

They want to ensure the win. You risk injury if you do that, and you could throw a INT. And stats don't mean anything. Winning is the only important thing.

because thats not good sportsmanship and in this game you never know what could happen. it seals the win without risking anything. most teams aren't playing for stats in this league, they are playing to win.

Its a little thing called sportsmanship...If they know they already won the game, they usually don't rub it in to the loser...
