Just replace the CMOS battery. It looks like a silver coin. It is usually a lithium CR2032 cell. Some camera stores sell them. Pretty cheap. Bought a pack of 2pcs for $0.75 a month ago.

If it consistently changes to the same time difference, maybe you have it set up for the wrong timezone, and the computer is set up to synchronize with an on-line time server.

If you are in London, but the computer is configured as being in Helsinki, and it logs on to the internet to update the time once a week, it should be off by the same amount of time after every syncronization.

Random time changes that are not consistent - maybe you have a battery problem, or more likely, maybe you have a program that affects the computer's clock - I actually had that once. If you run a particular program, and the time is wrong after that - you used the program for 20 minutes and the clock is now off by 20 minutes - you have your culprit!

when your laptop power is turned off and same with any other computer, a battery keeps the "clock" going. it will be one of those circle batteries. i personally do not have a laptop but in school i have taken apart a laptop for my lab but every machine is different. i am not sure what type of laptop you have or where your battery is placed but it shouldn't be hard to find.

so take apart your cover don't worry it wont hurt your laptop, i take apart my pc all the time. look at your motherboard and find your battery, than go out and buy another one and pop it in, put your case on, turn on your laptop and set the time. i hope this helps and remember that its alright to take your case off, but don't take anything out your not sure of, if it doesn't come out easy or go in easy it doesn't belong there.

Do you have wifi service and are you close to a different time zone? WIFI will provide time to your computer. Also check the time zone you have set for your computer. If you change the time and your computer thinks you are in a different time zone than you are it will change the time back when you turn your computer back on.

It is probably the battery on your bios that is going dead.
Without any experience working on laptops - don't try to change it - it can be challenging. Take it to a good shop.

there is a small battery on motherboard - small round one same one used in wrist watches and calculators that is in charge of keeping time/date correct when computer is off - if you're not techie i wouldn't suggest you that you do that - in laptops everything is cramped and squeezed and it is real difficult to do anything inside -
SOLUTION:
- go to http://www.download.com
- in search box type atomic clock synch
- download - it is FREE download
- in atomic clock synch click on file and than click on 2 items:
auto start with windows and synchronize daily -
click on ping now - done
atomic clock synch will keep yr computer time/date synchronized with the NIST's (National Institute of Standards and Time) atomic clock in Boulder, Colorado
yes atomic clock synch is compatible with ALL versions of windows - i had it in windows me, xp and now in vista

Bran will keep you regular...

Sorry, I just had to.

There must be something wrong. It is a sign and its telling you something and I wish I knew. I know my PC time keeps getting slower and slower. How is yours changing exactly? Is it jumping around or not saving your setting?
