Im living in Tampa right now and this city has proven to be a very poor city for design jobs. I would really like to move to a place like Chicago but im still new on my own and don't have the money for a huge move. So are there any decent alternatives within say a 3 state radius of FL?

Orlando has some good jobs and is only about an hour north of you. Why don't you try submitting your resume to www.jobster.com, www.careerbuilder.com, or www.monster.com. Look for jobs in cities close to you so that you can get a good sense of what the job market it like - as well as the cost of living. If you can, try to land a job before you move.
Another alternative is try temp agencies in your area or in cities that are close to you. A temp job can easily turn into a regular gig if they have the money and they like you ....
