My brother in law's older brother works there. I hear he's very intelligent but an average guy otherwise.

Regular people???? You mean like those people with minimal educations who go through life completely oblivious to the complexities and marvels of the physical world and are firmly convinced that they're pretty cool, even when they use words like "egghead" to describe someone who has a fairly complete education? No, I'd say the people at Mission Control aren't "regular" that way.

Yes, they are. But on a job where doing the right thing quickly and accurately is the difference between people dying and billions of dollars being lost, they do come off as a bit 'stodgy'. But you really have no choice. Pilots are the same way, and for the same reason(s).
