You're going to need to be a lot more specific. What area of Boston are you looking for, when are you coming, and what's your definition of cheap?

Without that info, I'm going to say your best bet will be in the suburbs or by the airport, and coming into the city by T (subway).

There are not may cheap hotels in Boston.. Check out the Doubletree near New England Medical center or the Omni Parker house (offers last minute deals) which is under renovation.. You can stay in Cambridge, Kendall Square at the Residence Inn (huge rooms, good price, free breakfast), and take the T (redline) over to Boston... If you must stay in Boston, check out tripadvisor.com and yahoo travel and search for Boston hotels... hotels.com is also great for last minute hotel options in Boston too
