Where have you noticed a large different between costs in the United States and Canada?

Yes-Canada has really high sales tax. We were floored by the prices when we went there. I think it was 18% in Thunder Bay where we were. Here in Wisconsin its 5%

A big part of the difference is the different tax structure in Canada vs USA and the exchange rate. You always used to get between 1.25-1.33 Canadian dollars for one US dollar--now you get about one for one--this will make Canadian goods FAR more expensive than they used to be.
