Mi brother is a chemist and gave me a bag of this......? He said to me do not mix with water.........and what do you do ....?mix with water! Ruined all my brickwork! Was he right or was it somethig ELSE?

Hydrogen pentoxide doesn't exist.

no idea what you were handling but I'd suggest you keep away from it if it can dissolve bricks

I'm pretty sure that there is no such thing a hydrogen pentoxide.

The compound could have been a metal oxide and mixing it with water would have produced a strong base solution that would be corrosive.

OR

The compound could have been a nonmetal oxide and mixing it with water would have produced an acid solution that would also be corrosive.

If your brother is a chemist and has even an ounce of professionalism in him he would not give you a bag of a dangerous chemical.

I agree - It was probably Hydgrogen PERoxide

H2O2

a bleaching and VERY reactive compound

I think you mean 'Hydrogen PERoxide' (H2O2) which is a bleaching agent.
