If i were to get a heating mat for my baby corn snake who will be living in a 20 gallon long, could he survive on just that? What all would he need if he couldnt?

Corns only need heat, not necessarily light. As long as your heat mat provides 75-85F, the snake will be fine.
The enclosure is a good size and will last its entire life, but make sure the lid is secure, corns are escape artists.
It will also need a shallow bowl of water in its tank at all times. It must be changed and disinfected daily. You must also add at least two hides. These don't have to be fancy or expensive, empty cardboard boxes will do. If you want, feel free to decorate the tank with artificual plants, stones, and logs. This would make cleaning a bit more work, but if you prefer the enclosure to have eye appeal, get creative.
