i want to get birth control, and even though i'm over 18 (i'm 19 and will be 20 soon), i still live with my parents (i'm in college, so i want to live off-campus, at home, to save money), but there is a problem. i think both of my parents still see me as a child, their "baby", and i've tried to talk to them before about sex and relationships and other "adult" issues, but they want no parts of it, therefore, it's hard for me to talk about birth control and protection and things of that nature. i guess they dont feel comfortable seeing me as an adult doing adult things. i want to get birth control, but i am afraid my mother wont want to take me to an appt to get it (still on their insurance), and there are no planned parenthoods or free clinics in my area. how can i get birth control, or at least find a way to talk to my parents about it without any of us being really uncomfortable about the issue? and yes i use condoms, but i also want to use bc as well.

Make the appointment and go to the doctor yourself. You are old enough to go to the doctor by yourself. Make sure you take your insurance card with you, so all you have to pay at the time of the appointment is the office visit copay. Also, find out from the insurance company the cheapest way to get prescriptions. My insurance has the cheapest prescriptions through mail order, all I have to do is give a special form to the doctor and the office faxes in my prescription directly to the mail order company.

You should have been on it a long time ago. If you are 19, maybe its time to ACT like an adult and either go about getting it yourself OR tell them hey I am going on birth control and I need you to take me to the doctor, clinic, whatever. If they are any good parents then they would do so. Afterall, do they really want their 'baby' to bring home a baby of their own someday?

You said you were in college. Therefore, I would recommend going to your college health clinic. They will sell some to you. It is possible they won't even use insurance except for the appointment. Colleges often get subsidized birth control pills which they then sell at low cost to students.
I'm glad you are being pro-active and protecting yourself.

Well you sound like a good teen so I won't say anything too risky. But you could just tell parents how you feel or not feeling to proud of that answer you could prove your an adult to them or you could just get an appt on your on because your considered an adult since your over 18 hope this helps.=)

You are a big girl, go to your doctor on your own. You are legally an adult, do what oyu want and what is best. That is what your parents want for you, so do it!
I went (alone) when I was 16 to get birth control and I am on my moms insurance and I was covered.
Honestly, you dont even need to tell your parents. If you do, tell them it is because your periods are being weird (irregular or painful). You really do not need to give them details.

i might pass with the IUD if I have been you. I had the Mirena IUD for 3 years, and have these days had it bumped off to objective for toddler extensive sort 2. The IUD grew to become into painless to get in, I had it put in at my 6 week examine up after my daughter grew to become into born. that is secure to apply in case you're nursing your newborn, and it lasts for 5 years!!! Plus you do no longer ought to rigidity approximately pills or something. the only think of i did no longer understand once I have been given the Mirena is it is can take awhile on your menstral cycles to return to commonplace after having the IUD bumped off. I had mine bumped off in December 2008, and interior the previous couple months my cycles have finally decrease back to commonplace, different than that, I exceedingly advise the IUD!

All parents are like that! No parents want to see their daughter get older ...you can go see your regular doctor depending on what he/she specializes in ...or you could go to your gynocologist ..but i prefer a gyno. and ask him/her everything you want to know ...they will tell you everything and anything about birth control!

You could go to planned parenthood by yourself, it is inexpensive and discrete. If you want your mother to be apart of this try explaining it as "if i do become sexually active i would like to be prepared". you could also talk to your school nurse and have her refer a clinic or something to you. good luck!

If you are on there insurance go to the doctor and use it. Why are they so uncomfortable? They should have already educated you and discussed sex with you.
