For the love of God, people need to stop asking this question...The QB has a headset in his helmet to hear the plays being called from the coaches...Thats what the dot signifies...the player has a headset...

due to issues of multiple players w a headset on the nfl came up with the dot only one player per team can be on the field with the dot. commonly qb and middle linebacker
