If this is a homework assignment, I'd write a Declaration of Dependence, not Independence.

You purpose for independence? are you ready to pay the bills you'll incur? Do you have a job that can pay for home, food, and clothing? If not, you have no reason to declare independence.

Your complaints can be in your terms of surrender as well as independence.

Make sure your parents know what your teacher is assigning.

My tirade aside, you'll have to tell us what year of schooling this assignment was given. Not many graduating from college are truly ready for independence.

I am assuming you WANT to be declared independent. It is possible, BUT...consider the consequences: your parents will no longer be financially responsible for you, even if you are still under 18. You will have to pay ALL your own bills and live by yourself (or with a friend) as they will not be obligated to let you live at home. There may be good reasons for doing this, but consider the consequences CAREFULLY before you do. It is likely you have not finished your education, and getting any kind of decent paying job under 18 without at least a high school diploma may be next to impossible.

Some ideas to stir you up. If this is supposed to be fictional (rather than true), you could pretend all kinds of scenarios. Examples: You are 25 but never can meet peers because you are living at home and your parents say 'no guests'. You are helping your immigrant parents with their business, but they fear US culture and don't allow you to go to social functions. You have found the girl/guy of your dreams, but your parents don't like them because they are different. You desire a certain profession for your life and have a burning desire for it, but your parents want you to do something else. Your parents were never educated, so they fear you getting an education or learning 'new ways.' I hope these stir some ideas.
