Well if your looking for a desktop i would go with a Dell first off. In my opinion they are top of the line. Now we have a Dimension E520, it is about a middle grade, running on Windows Media Edition 2005. Well after we bought this computer, Vista came on the market. Really any computer you get know is going to run on Vista, which is okay but its different, and takes some getting used to. But they still sell the Dimension 320's and such, the old bulky all black ones that range in the 300-400 range. New ones from Dell like mine are better, faster, and more user friendly. They also sell the XPS, top of "Da" line, but also be ready to cough up 2000-5000 bucks, but are absolutly sweet, awsome graphics, sound, and are super fast. Apple is a good brand but im not into the whole Apple deal, not my type but like i said nice computers(they cant get viruses or stuff that will just plain screw up your computer). Dual core is a type of processer, as far as i know they are old. I think they newest one that is common, or that you dont have to pay a ton for is the Core 2 Processor, the new XPS by Dell run on a state of the art AGEIA PhysX processor. But are moondo bucks. okay ill cut to the chase... what i would do is go to dell.com and click on desktops and then price range 500-1000 now if your wanting to spend more then do so, but to get a up todate and decent computer your going to have to spend about 500-1000 bucks

is a good spot to check and compare all of Dell wonderful computers!
hopes this helps!

I have a Sony Vaio with dual core processor and Win XP. Yes, they still make them; I would suggest the newer Sonys. I have had only minor problems; mostly, the computer and XP solve things themselves.
Dual core means it can run as if it was 2 computers; you can have 2 screens (split) and run 2 different things at the same time. Read Steve Sinchak's "Hacking Windows XP" for full details.

Yes they do . But i suggest that you get a core 2 duo . It is as if you have the same computing power under one tower and teh added benefit of them being much more efficient. Becasue they are together and can run the tasks simontaniouly it improevs performance because they can work together to perform complex or to do some serious multi tasking . If u are a newb i would suggest going with dell. If

Dual Core means that there are 2 CPUs on one chip(wafer) of silicon which means that the computer can compute faster with less power so it runs cooler.
