Is this a seriously dying trend?

Yes, I do know how to sew. I took a home economics class back in the eighth grade. I made a pillow out of scratch. I do think sewing is a dying trend, but hey, it's something to fall back on. I could become a seamstress.

I know how to sew and have made a lot of nice clothes for myself and as gifts. I think it's a dying trend because I see fewer fabric stores than there used to be. I also understand Home Ec.(where I first became interested in sewing) isn't taught in school anymore.

Not with a sewing machine, but I love to hand-sew and embroider - things like that. I like the peacefulness of it. I don't know anyone else who does it though, and I think it is a dying trend in an ever-faster-paced time, because it just isn't very 'exciting' and people wonder what do you get out of it? :)

Yes I know how to sew and have made many items such as costumes, drapes, baby bedding (sheets, bumper, diaper bag and blanket), cloth baby books, clothing, and more.
I have done alterations for others.
I think the dying trend is stitching, patching or fixing a hole, missing button, broken zipper, hem taken up or down. Most people would just as soon throw out the item rather then fix the item.

Yep, I sure do! I'm not very good with a sewing machine but I can sew very well by hand. A good lock stitch can really save the day. Sewing is a very good skill to have. Do you know how much money you can save just by fixing your own unraveled seams? Seriously! Most people just throw something away because it ripped or the seam separated. Just learn to sew, it's not that hard, honest.

In 1971, I made a pair of bellbottoms out of silver vinyl upholstery material. I seldom wore them, because they were so hot!

Around 1975, I made myself a 3-piece suit. The jacket shoulders were a little misaligned, so it felt a little funny wearing it, but it lasted a good long time.

In 1987, I used two pairs of worn-out bellbottoms to make a pattern and designed and sewed myself a pair of hiphugger elephant bells with huge wooden buttons for the fly. I used a treadle sewing machine that someone had given me. That was about 5 or 6 years, at least, since everybody else had stopped wearing bells!

I learned to sew when I was in the 5th grade. The clothes my mother made for me were from her era and not at all what I wanted to wear so I could make current fashions after I learned. I sewed much of my life until a house fire burned my machine.

You mean without a machine? I don't think I have tried it since I was in the Cub Scouts - when I must have been about 9 or 10 years old. I managed well enough then, I think.
