The answer is yes. Unions have become subverted to the point where they no longer resemble anything useful. Their positions only serve to raise prices for the average consumer as they demand more rewards for less work. The great labor disputes of the early part of twentieth century bare no resemblance whatsoever to the disputes of today. We are no longer talking about people making slave wages and working under sweatshop conditions.
Take the current GM situation. At the heart of the dispute is that these workers, who work in an industry which is slowly failing before foreign competition are demanding that their benefits and those of their families be 100% subsized by the company. Now I ask you. How many of you enjoy this type of benefit from your employers and where will the money to pay these rising costs come from? Answers: Not many and anyone who purchases a GM vehicle in the future. We all complain about the high cost of American made goods and how we can no longer compete in the global marketplace and this is definitely one of the causes.

I did a report on unions for U-M business school. It it we came to the conclusion that there is a time and a place for them. On one hand, i've seen four guys changing a light bulb at a Ford plant; And on the other i've seen desperate people fighting (literally) to get a dirty seven dollar an hour job.
Personally, after mulling it over for a decade, i believe that anyone that is not represented has a right to rebell. When the workers wern't regarded, then unions formed. When they got too powerful, and the companies wern't represented, the plants are moved.

Unions are an anachronism. They had a purpose once upon a time, but now they are simply run by power-hungry thugs who no more care about their membership than a queen ant cares about the drones working in her hill. There are a multitude of legal resources for workers to tap into when the need arises. Unions are the reason so many of our industry is going overseas.

exertions unions won't in any respect outlive their relevance to the working guy and the employers. Employers who're unrestrained by way of exertions companies are continually abusive to their workers and could never provide a honest fee for the exertions they get carry of.

no. here is why. Take a look at all the modern industrialized countries where citizens do well for themselves...and take a look at the poor countries where the citizens have not fared that well.
now take a look at countries that have strong unions. and countries that dont have unions.
geez...isnt it amazing...the countries where citizens do well have strong unions.
beat that argument.
