There's not much you can do except to provide a few shells larger than the present one, and give the hermit a proper environment. This is especially important for them to have sand or coconut fiber deep enough for them to completely bury themselves, and high humidity so their gills don't dry out.

I don't know if you provide this, but hermit crabs should also have access to saltwater, not just freshwater, and all water should be dechlorinated.

I'm not an expert on this, but when I had hermit crabs, I just left a bunch of potential shells for them to move into and when they were ready they vacated their old shells and moved ito the new ones. Hope this helps!

you should have a selection of of shells for your crab to move into..... more than two..... they are very picky about their new homes...... they will come out at nite when no one is watching and try on the new shells pick one they like and will keep it till next time..... this process cannot forced and maybe your crab is not ready to move yet.... sorry about your other crab ...... good luck

Make sure that the shell is as big as he is first.....and has a nice opening with no holes.... put them side by side ...he will check it out for a few min then try is on then go back to he shell then check out the new shell again from the out side..... then he'll try it on again if he likes it he'll stay in it and walk around remember remove his old shell from him so he wont go back in it.
my hermit crabs love to switch around........

you should get a variety of shells so if he doesn,t like one shell he may like another and if he dies there are going to be other hermit crabs

Make sure that the conditions are good and they have bigger shells to get into. Get a few different shells of different sizes. Make sure you dont drop them either, 1 feet can kill them. They need humidity as well. And warmth

it might not be ready to switch shells yet...they usually switch shells when they are too big for the one they are in...dont try to pull it out of its shell cuz it could get hurt if you do...dont worry though it will make the move on its own :)
