I don't usually check my savings acct. but now while browsing online I happen to notice that they've been deducting a monthly service charge of $3.00. I never heard of any bank that charges on savings , not to mention that I have a decent amount of money from them. I need to hear your...

All banks make most of their money on fees. Any chance they get to charge them, they will do so.
Most banks like Wells Fargo charge a fee if your balance becomes too low. That will either force you to move the money or drain the account until they TAKE all the money.
It costs the bank money to manage your accounts. Just issuing a statement to you probably costs over $10. If you don't have enough money in your account, they you to GO AWAY.

If your account is anything other than basic checking, they're probably charging a fee because you're maintaining a balance either in your checking or savings that's below their specified minimum. Like the other person said here, It's a maintenance fee. Check your terms carefully, and if necessary downgrade to basic checking.

I don't know about Wells Fargo, but my guess is your balance is below the required minimum balance to avoid a monthly fee. Can you view your account on-line? I guarantee the COMPLETE terms and fee schedule ARE on their website.

Some banks charge a monthly "maintenance" fee. I know a lot of banks offer "free" checking accounts but I don't think they offer free savings, all you can do is ask. If I were you I'd call different banks in your area and ask them about free savings account, if you find one tell your bank you are going to close your account if they can't do the same.

you probably did not keep the minimum required amount in the account. I just cancelled my wells fargo savings account yesterday for the exact same reason. they charged me $3 after I cleaned it out to pay my taxes. piss'd me off so I closed it out and am going to ingdirect- 4.3% and no minimum balance required

Maybe it is an error on their part or your balance is under their established minimum. I would start looking at other banks as well just in case you need to move your money.
