I want to make a budget thing on the computer that says how much I have, how much I'll be getting, helping me set aside money for fun stuff, but ultimately saving for an iPod nano. Does that make sense?

I actually have enough to buy one now, but I'd rather save so when I buy it I had a lot left over.

I love using the computer to set up budgets and such. There are a lot of free programs. I did a quick Yahoo search using "free budgeting software" and found a lot of them all with directions.

A simpler approach is to use the envelope process. One envelope for each thing you are saving for. Pay your bills when you get paid. Even if they are not yet due. Then put the rest in the envelopes.

A word of warning about budgets. They still require discipline. Most people spend hours on their budgets and then ignore them.

Probably not the answer your looking for, but if you have to set up a budget with software or a spreadsheets to buy an Ipod, then you can't afford it.

I suggest you utilize the spread sheet and seperate out all your NEEDS from WANTS.

I have found the best budgeting software for me is Microsoft Excel. I basically use it as a high tech sheet of paper with a built in calculator. Just list everything. NO program will help you set aside a penny. The BEST a program can do is help you SEE what you need to do YOURSELF.

Pay your rent and utilities .
Buy groceries instead of eating out .
Pay the car bills .
Use the rest for a nano .

See ? Easy , no complicated PC program needed .
