if i get a external hardrive to my laptop will the movies on the laptop run faster. my laptop is 4gb and the external harddrive is 40gb when i play videos on the laptop they play slow without the external harddrive but if i get one will the videos play faster

NOPE. If that 4Gb is HDD, your laptop is outdated and inherently slow.

Not necessarily. You have other things you need to worry about with video playback as well, such as your video chip in the laptop, the processor speed, amount of memory, and even the OS. And with the external hard drive, if your laptop only has USB 1.1 ports, you'll see choppy video anyway due to slow transfer speeds of USB 1.1 (12mbit/second, or 1.5mbyte/second, is slow for most any computer interconnect that isn't being used exclusively for networking).

If you are going to get an external hard drive, get at least 160 G.
