I have a gateway laptop with windows 98 and I accedently uninstalled the sound. I have had my computer for a few years so I don't have all those cd's anymore that came with it. Is there a download that I can do to get the sound back?

Go to gateway's website, and search for a soundcard driver in the support and download section. I hope they still have it!
If not, finding out exactly what soundcard you have will help when googling for a driver if the first option fails.

get into the control panel and in your device manager check the sound devices. write down what type of sound device your computer has. for example if it has a "soundmax" go to google and type "soundmax driver" If that doesnt work go back to your control panel and choose "add new hardware" If it prompts you to choose between already connected or not, choose "already connected" let your computer search and see if it gives you the name of the hardware that has not software. go to google and search for the driver.....or go to driverguide.com and you can get it from there.
