I'm kind of stunned you can't imagine someone with a different opinion than yours might actually be forced!

Is that really your full understanding of what conservatives come from? That doesn't speak favorably of your experience.

Why not read some of what they say? I have no interest in becoming "right wing", but a little education about what your political opposition believes might help you.

It will at least improve your participation in this dialog.

How odd that you ask a question about forcing someone to choose a way of thinking.

1. Can't be done, by anyone, anywhere. People thoughts are the one place that you are always free.

2. Do you understand right-wing thought? It calls for the greatest amount of personal freedom possible, with the least amount of governmental "force".

3. Remember, political correctness which "forces" displayed thought to follow "correct" forms is almost exclusively denounced by conservatives.

So, by following simple logic it can be found that conservatives almost certainly were not forced to think in any way. Try to understand conservative thought before attacking it.

I was forced.

If I had my own beliefs, i'd be an abortionist who believes in global warming. I would recycle and be vegan. I would admire Hollywood and say the Dixie Chix know whats best for the USA. I would vote for Hillary Clinton and I would be glad to pay more taxes. I would get a cool hairdo and drive a hybrid. I would endlessly complain that Fox News had a evil right wing conspiaracy, and I'd listen to Dave Matthews.

But since I was forced to be Republican, I just sit around being a glutonous pig and wave my flag around in front of the TV and make off color remarks about colored folks and homosexuals. I use my bible as a coaster for my Budweiser beer cans and worry about the sanctity of marriage.

No one forced me to be conservative.

I became conservative after being in the US Navy and seeing things overseas that would never agree with nor tolerate in America.

After coming home and reaserching the political debates of the country I see many things in the US that are turning tword the things I saw overseas that I would never let happen in this country.

I also think the current Democratic party is for collectivism over personal responsability. I don't think that is good for the US and will not support it within our borders.

Conservative is a matter of opinion and personal values. I have always considered myself (R). But I can't agree with the way the country has been run the last seven years. The focus on the war, but not winning. the ignoring of the problems of ordinary people back home. The naked, and blind greed.

Like most conservatives, I was just lucky enough to be born with common sense and the belief that people should rule the government rather than the other way around.

Well what do you think?!?! Did you get forced into your decision or was it free choice. I know that what ever I decide in my life, it is because I wanted it that way, not because someone else is going to do the thinking for me. I stand up for what I believe in, not for what someone else wants me to believe in.

I'm not conservative, but my study has concluded that it's a learned response, it starts very early in life when it's easier to go along rather than form your own identity, it's further solidified in the graduate grades, when the choice is made to look at history and declare that it worked for the colonials it's good enough for me.As they leave the world of academia, they have been brain washed enough and trained in the art of misinformation, on going blindness to misjustice, and the art of insult to deflect their lack of knowledge. one side note of my study has been, although they object to the killing of unborn children, they don't mind war to kill off the others...this may be a by product of keeping the poor, poor...and conserving wealth for the elite.

Own choice.

However, I consider myself to be a left-side right-wing. Basically someone who likes doing the fun stuff but I have a few morals =D

No, my education and wisdom made it the logical choice. Did some force your political views on you?

If you are a Conservative when you are 18 you have no heart. If you are a Liberal when you are 40, you have no brain.
