Seemingly, Republicanism fails to thrive in an atmosphere of diversity. Can it exist only on it's own terms or is it able to be healthfully responsive to other beliefs, cultures and philosophies?

People throw the terms Fascist and Communist around pretty freely. I wonder if the young people using these terms understand anything about them? Republicanism has purposely created a group of Americans who work against themselves. Money is being stolen at a rate that is not to be believed. It is our money. They are taking our money and throwing it to a few privileged people. How is that so different from Communism? I am so discouraged that I can't even vote for change. They won't change enough.

As the terms are actually used today, "Republican Conservative" and "Liberal Democrat" are bandied about as if they are psychological types.

Because the words are used that way, this is what the two terms have come to mean.

Most Americans could not write out even the most basic definition of either political group. They've made up these tags, divided themselves up, and kick each other like warring ethnic factions in the Middle East.

It seems your answer has two interpretations. The first is that you are talking about the Republican Party, if that is indeed your question, you must realize the Republican party does not represent Republicanism as a whole no more than Democrats represent Democracy. As for the second interpretation, of course it is open to diversity, it's one of the few forms of government that is, though like all governments it does have it's difficulties with it. Lebanon is a perfect example of this.

After seeing the democrats being called socialist/communist multiple times on here, I wonder if the republicans have ever compared the republican party to alternative government forms. This is a pretty good description of what we have been living since 2001.

Don't just read the last word in the link and fail to read the 14 points. You'll be amazed at the resemblance. It appears from this, in the eyes of a republican, that we are destined to be either be communists, socialists, or fascists in the U.S. Not very good choices here unless you care to be realistic about how things are applied under our Constitution.

Republicans fall into three categories

1) Socially maladaptive rednecks who have no manners. They use intimidation and insults to get what they want. You see 'em all the time on YA.

2) The Liars. They're the ones who like Fox News, use false surveys or start questions with false premises, questions like

...in that homosexuality is a choice....(false premise)

3) The Ones Who Don't Like Change. They're the ones who just find it difficult to live in todays society. I feel sorry for these ones because I do sometimes too.

Republicanism is alive and well. This may be what your concern is. If they failed to thrive, would you have asked this question? As for being healthfully responsive, I have never attacked (physically or otherwise) anyone for their beliefs, cultures and philosophies. The opposite is true. I am being attacked for MY beliefs not being similar to theirs. I (according to some) am an infidel. And all infidels should DIE! There is a difference between being healthfully responsive and allowing yourself to be abused and/or killed.

Mad Scientist has a good answer. Also, the God and Greed Coalition has got millions of working class and poor people convinced that if they work 24/7, obey their masters, and vote Republican, they too will .....eventually......be millionaires.

Biggest scam ever devised to funnel money into rich corporations.

Well, if encouraging people to: advance and seek higher goals: start new businesses: provide educational retraining when large business down sizes vs becoming 3rd generation welfare recipients is maladaptive, I guess I need to join a third party.
Keeping a free people, dependent on big government and controlling people as sheep is maladaptive, or have you stopped trying to think for yourself?

the gop always talks about being traditional- while its great to remember our roots, there are many things in our past that are/were wrong.

time changes everything. and 'tradition' changes or disappears altogether.

Republicanism at it's core is maladaptive. One must adapt to it, or have no part in their plan.
