The armpit is more accurate. I may be ignorant, but why would you stick something in your infants ear when you can take his temperature more safely? 98 is fine, and infants can tolerate a higher temperature than adults, but you should still be concerned if it goes over 100. Infants as adults are normal at 98.6.

Ear thermometers are sometimes hard to get an accurate reading with. An average normal human body temperature, regardless of the age of the person, taken orally is 98.6. If you take the temperature rectally, average normal temperature is a little higher, about 99.6. Taken axillary, under the arm, it is a little lower with 97.6 being about average normal. Everyone varies slightly in their body temperature and many variables affect the temperature, too. Both the ear temp and the under arm temp are probably correct. Regardless, those numbers fall well within the normal range. Depending on the situation, many doctors don't consider anything below 100.4 to be a fever. More important than the numbers on the thermometer is how does the child act, look, and feel? Very serious illness can have no fever with it as well as a child with a very high fever can be acting and feeling just fine.

Ear thermometers can be very in accurate especially if there is a possiblity of an ear infection. I would believe the under arm thermometers, you add 1 degree under arm. A normal body temperature is 98.6 degrees. I am a rare exception because I run at 97.4 all the time. The most accurate reading is an anal reading. Use a little bit of vaseline for that one.

It should be about 98.6 give or take a little. Your ear thermomitor is off, try chaging the batteries. Anyway with an armpit temerature you need to add a degree. So, she has a low grade temp.

Like ours 98.6......But he/she is ok. Mine is usually a little lower it usually hovers around 97. I'm sure he/she is o.k.
As long as he/she is warm to the touch and his/her temp is reading normal or a little below he/she is fine. A good rule of thumb especially for older babies (cause the little bitty ones usually like to be nice and toasty!), if you are hot, they are probably hot, if you are cold and want some socks, they are probably cold and want some socks!!

the ear thermometers are not accurate you could get 2 different readings with each ear.
