Odds are it would make a bunch of culties and religious fanatics wet themselves...and then *really* freak out and raise a lot of hell, once they realize this is the *big one*, the one thing that could prove Science right and their Good Books all wrong, once and for all even.

As for the rational people? Well it would depend on what kinds of things *came out of* the UFOs. For instance, we assume all of the UFOs are of extra-terrestrial origin...but what if they aren't? What if only a few were, and the remainder of the UFOs were *aircraft* using reverse-engineered (hacked) technology? What would *that* say about the Big Brother/dictator aspirations of certain nations?

And that's the easy one to deal with.

Harder ones might be along the lines of: What if we had found friendly aliens, but our gung-ho Men In Black wannabes ended up killing them? Or....what if the aliens don't even recognize us as anything more than *Lunch*?

Or, worse still, they might well *be* everything they're cracked up to be. Enlightened. Smarter than us. Better than us. Which might lead to anarchy as people *ditch* their own social structures and nation states in an effort to favor the "better" alien ones. The idea being, that only *some* would bail, while others would *raise a big stink*, call the newcomers the spawn of Satan, the works.

And all of this assumes that the aliens are just different intelligent species, with a bit of superior technology (that they use to get around those "impossible" distances). It assumes that for the most part, they *don't* have any natural abilities above and beyond those of ordinary men.

For all we know, this could end up being a "Kneel Before ZOD" scenario, if you know what I mean.

In other words...while I don't like the hush-hush business, and I really don't like how quickly these Paid-For "Scientists" jump the gun and declare "mass hysteria" like they did with the Peru Meteor....I *can* sort of see the reasons why.

Admitting to the reality--that we might as policy end up *shooting first and asking questions never*, if only to keep alien diseases and proteins in check--might *really* throw a huge monkey wrench into the works of human civilization as we know it. It might force us all to *question* things and to especially *question* authority structures that already have it really comfy at *everyone else's* expense.

It might make us wonder if a policy of paranoia and denial *really is* all that is keeping us alive.

Or...it might make us wonder if a policy of paranoia and denial is all that is keeping us *under the thumbs* of your powers that be.

Just saying....thanks for your time. ^_^

the government isn't hiding something. What you call evidence isn't something greater advantageous than fakery and mind's eye. yet aside from that, in case you had any clue what may well be required for an alien tech to return to this planet, you will possibly understand that any beings who could desire to realize this may well be plenty greater useful than us, that there is not any way any of the incredibly puny "governments" right here could desire to cover a blasted ingredient. no person is hiding something from you, toddler. there's no longer something to cover.
