Ive got a Fujitsu Siemens laptop, had it for about 4 months. It was unable start and I had tried to do a system restore but didn't work so in desperation, mistakingly restored it to it's factory settings today.
It is working now (although has crashed today already) but I just wondered if there is any chance of getting a microsoft word document i really need back! I haven't reinstalled microsoft word yet?
I am really useless with computers so any answers in lehmans terms if possible please. Thanks in advance!

If you saved the file then you should be able to recover it with no problem, but you probably had a crash in the middle of the document and so lost the file. In that case it could stored as a temporary file under
C:Documents and Settings/Your Name and in either
- the templates files
- or the My Recent Documents files
- or under Local Settings/Temp/Word 8.0

If it is not in the last location then you may have lost it for good.
Try re-opening MS Word and see if it will call up the document automatically. If that doesn't work then go to Windows Explorer and explore the C:Documents and Settings folder.

Check the HP support website for information on a "Restore Partition". This is a small portion of the hard disk that has the factory settings installer on it. Very high chance that your PC has this and so you won't need a Windows 7 disk.

The only chance you have is to obtain software that is capable of recovering files from a formatted drive. Go to http://www.filehippo.com and put 'file recovery' in the search box. Download the file PC File recovery 4.0 and try that.
You should always keep a back up of your documents for occasions like this.
