I'm doing a speech on school uniforms as my topic for language tomorrow, and I'm writing it tonight. I myself have been in a Christian school up until my freshman year of high school, which is this year, so now that I'm in public school we don't have uniforms. I didn't mind uniforms when I was in younger grades, but from about 5th grade up I started hating them. I'm just looking for your opinions on what you think of them and why or why not for some help with my essay.

I attend a public high school and we wear uniforms [Blue shirt, khaki pants, white or black shoes only] and when it was first declared we had to wear uniforms I was in 2nd grade and I hated it until I got to middle school. People would laugh at even the slightest flaw in your attire even in unforms! I was never laughed about my clothes but I felt so sorry for those who were. They didn't have the funds that I had and they didn't wear the most up to date shoes and clothes because they weren't as wealthy as many other kids were. I think uniforms are a way to help kids who don't have much money dress like all the others kids who are rich and maybe even bring their confidence up. At my school we can wear acessories like ribbons, jewelry, belts, etc. to accomodate the uniform and give us a sense of fashion with the uniform to express ourselves. Kids get teased enough about other stuff uniforms is just one way the teasing about material things can cease. Good luck with your essay! =D

Hm, it's a fifty-fifty thing to me.

I said no to uniforms because it doesn't give the student a chance to show off their personality, a little about themselves. Sometimes that can tell you what that person is about ya know.

Then yes because some people don't know how to dress properly for school, and it's disgusting. Also, gangs, and territorial clothing all that crap and get out of hand. Sometimes they have uniforms so nobody will feel left out, meaning some people dress better than others that can lead to jealousy and then trouble get me, so it more of a protection, or security thing.

=)

I have had to wear uniforms for work....and only when the uniform is comfortable and looks good on me did I like it....also there has to be flexiblity with the uniform...

...the uniform...maybe following some color codes...but being able to wear a style of shirt or pants or skirt that you like...

uniforms might be helpful with some students...they wouldn't feel the need so much to follow fashion trends....or feel the need to compete with the other students to outdo someone else's clothing...

"private" & religious schools (I've never been there & if I was a parent, It may be a choice if I was against public schools, the trouble, etc. but I'm not that insecure & don't plan to raise kids). -what I hated was wearing uniforms while on a dirty jobsite & then having to take them home to wash after-(this was back when a dishwasher) some restaurants supply clean shirts, & pants daily, have hampers for them, etc.

I dislike the concept of school uniforms immensely. I believe it is the school's function to teach the child practices that will help him become a well rounded and functional adult. To embrace the idea that we all should have the same clothing, in same colors is to teach that life is fair and equal. That will
hardly serve any student well as a model of adult life.

I can see why schools would have uniforms, but I would absolutely HATE them because they crush creativity and make everyone look like robots.

XD okay so in less insane terms I don't like them because it means you are unable to express who you are through clothing. Something about everyone looking the same creeps me out.

I'm in a public school and they are making us wear uniform.
I don't like the uniform because it takes away our creative nature.

as a parent of a teenage girl I love them

the uniforms are durable, easy to wash
my daughter doesn't have to spent hours in front of the mirror deciding on what to wear
- all kids look equal in the eyes of the teachers. as rich kids would have the chance to dress better and kids from disadvantaged families would feel inferior

Uniforms don't stop you from being teased. People will always find another thing to bully you about.
