Best way is first: Start > Control Panel > Add / Remove programs Highlite the program there and then click "Remove" the program(s) from there. If you do not see them there, then goto: Start > Programs > and find the program and high-lite it and a window should open and hopefully a un-install option. Usually the first option will work as if you do not want it running, you obviously don't want it on you HD wasting space either and that will remove it all. Occasionally, also run a registry cleaner to get rid of garbage in the registry because when you remove programs alot of info remains in the registry, and can cause errors later.

Go to "Start" "Run" and type "msconfig" in the startup tab are the run keys in the registry that start up programs when windows loads. unchecking specific programs prevents these programs from loading. Some may look strange, but googling the name of the process will reveal what it does.

Good Luck.

Click "Start", "Run", type in: msconfig, click "enter" or "go" or whatever the offer is. ( I have Vista, and no longer have this convenience) I think the correct tab to choose is "start up". Once you get the right tab opened, you can choose which programs are running in the background when the computer starts up.

It is long and complicated...No, really, you need to follow a bunch of steps. Try the book, "Hacking Windows XP" by Steve Sinchak. I don't recommend a lot of the stuff he covers, but it has been a life saver. It is what should be included with every computer using XP.
Good luck.

You have to edit the startup registry. Its easier if you get a program to do it. That way if you mess up and delete something important, you can go back and fix it. There are plenty of freeware programs that work well.

Right click on start and then left click on properties. click on customize. Click on advanced and clear the check box or click on general and clear the start menu. howeveer this doesn't mean you delete the programs from your computer.
