First, allow me to paint you a picture....
I am Australian born and a very patriotic person, I love my country. I am half Indian and half Polish, I am very proud of my heritage as well. My mother was born in India and came over here at the age of two. As you can imagine, I was brought up to be very tolerant of other religions and ethnicities.
I am not racist, nor am I religious. I don't hate muslims or anyone else who is religious.
However, I have realised that since the "War on Terror" began my morals have been stretched to the limits.
I live in Brisbane, Australia, and the other day on the bus a man sat down next to me, obviously of Indian or similar descent. He was cradling a bag, and I actually found myself to be quite nervous, I was shocked at that fact.

Personally, I blame the "War on Terror" for creating one of the largest fears in the world. Adolf Hitler did the same with the Jews. What are your thoughts?

Marc X, I'm not saying Australia is tolerant, we are just as bad as any of the nations involved in the War on Terror, all that I am trying to illustrate is the fear that has grown inside everyone unbeknownst to themselves, despite their backgorund or upbringing. I am not afraid of Muslims, and I do not hate them.

In the short term, it definitely has.
In the long term, I thank God for it.

My family escaped Islam in the 1950s. We've been expecting this war for decades. I am thankful that the United States, for the most part, has woken up.

I am fearful it will fall asleep again.

Nigeria just fell to Islam. The conquest has been going on for centuries. It is still going on.

We've joined this war very late, because we were only affected by a few trade problems, an attack on an ally, an attack on a ship or an embassy.

9/11 woke us up.

We can go back to sleep, and let them continue to conquer country after country, first in South-East Asia (many have already fallen to Sharia law, getting a majority, getting in power, dissolving the government, etc.), or we can let free speech reveal what is happening in Islamic countries and nearly Islamic countries around the world.

The West will cheer and dance in the streets when Islam embraces free speech, freedom of religion, and equality.

That will be a far cry from what caused others to dance in the streets on 9/11.

That is the present conflict. Those are our respective goals.

I've chosen sides. I hope all of you have as well.

Well, I am from Canada. I have lived here all my life and have allways thought that we are one of the most blessed countries for our Political and Moral views against the use of violence to achieve any cause.
However, as sad as the situation is there are times that we do have to defend ourselves. The big question is When and Under What Surcumstances should we get involved when Canada has always been known to be a Peace Keeping Nation.
War on Terror is a situation that we all have to take seriouly. After what happened on 9/11 and the effents that followed brought a much deeper meaning to the War on Terror. But there has always been terrorism. Dating back as far as we can go.
How to handle it now is much more complicated. No longer do we just have the A bomb, but we are
now dealing with the possibility of these terrosists unleasinging a biological or nucleor threat that would almost bring us into the Book Of Revelation at anytime. (thats if you believe in the Christian Bible)
Do I beleive Canada should of changed its role so drastically after the 9/11? What really happened? And who really was to blame for attacking United States?
Was the attack on the United States responsible for the phrase" war on terrorrism" to be known to all and was the retaliation on Iraq for the thousands of people murdered(families destroyed) or was it a combination for the oil control as well. I guess we might not ever know for a fact. No absolutes.
Mabye ask my son who was over in Afganastan fighting along with the British, Korean and Americans? Or read a book about "Secret Societies".

Comparing what Hitler did, and the War on Terror is at best intellectually dishonest. Hitler did what he did through propoganda on the heels of a depression that was caused largely in part to the Treaty of Versailles and Germany's loss of World War I.

Terrorism, as well as radical Islam (death to anyone who will not convert or who is an infidel and does not believe in Mohammed) is a very real threat.

Jews did not terrorize anyone. They did not strap bombs to themselves, they did not kidnap and/or behead people, and they did not fly planes (or drive cars) into buildings. They were economically successful during a time when most Germans were struggling to find work or feed their families. Terrorism has been a very real threat since the Olympics in '73. It just took almost 30 years for people to realize it.

The reason you found yourself nervous is because there is an actual threat to safety by radical muslims.

It sounds more to me like you are looking for a reason to swallow the Kool-Aid that is flavoured with the view that the War on Terror is nothing more than a bumper sticker slogan.

I get a headache reading some of the stuff I read on here.

MckenzieCalhoun and Brent S have it right....
People need to wake up!

If you don't think there has been any affect on terrorism by the military presence in Iraq, you need to realize that there is more going on than you can see or hear about.

Every day there isn't a major terrorist attack, thank your respective militaries for keeping the attention and terrorists focused on attacking the military overseas and not on your soil.

It's a thankless job. If nothing happens, you think it isn't working. I always say, if we had shot down the planes before they hit the World Trade Towers, everyone would have thought the U.S. military insane. It takes a major tragedy like that to force complacent civilians to "get it." That's even why many believe FDR "let" Pearl Harbor happen so he could enter WWII.

Thank the people working hard to keep you safe. There are military stationed all over the Middle East and beyond. Terrorists are all over the Middle East and beyond. It's not like we can just sit in one country. This is not an attack by one definable nation. If you want to prevent terrorism, you can't sit at home in the U.S. waiting to defend your country as you get hit. You have to be out on terrorist lands finding them and killing them. That's what's happening.

And as for "just getting war criminals" instead of terrorists....ask anyone affected by Saddam Hussein. I was never happier in my life than when that evil terror was taken from our planet. So many killed by that evil man. He wasn't just a war criminal.....he was the scariest terrorist on the planet.

Please...wake up. If you think this is about oil, join the military and you will see what really happens out there. I'm glad I served my country....and can see that the media is mostly clueless as a source of information....that's why the headlines are mostly about Brittany Spears and Lindsay Lohan. Make sure to check out the media from around the world to get a better idea of what is going on.

Good luck and support your military.

Amazing, I'm now suddenly instinctually afraid of all Arabs because Bush says I should be? And he didn't even need hypnotism to do it. That man is incredibly talented. My own parents couldn't raise THAT degree of fear in me about people I don't even know.

But some guy I only read about in the newspapers, or hear about on TV, has the uncanny ability to create the most irrational fears inside me, without any ability of my own to handle such irrational fears.

And Australia is tolerant? Please, do I need to remind you about the way you're handling the Aborigines? Or maybe your state position on unorthodox religions, such as Wicca?

Bin Laden, himself, has said in his own words, that this is a central battle in the war on terror. Islamo-fascists have vowed to take over the world and kill all non-Muslims. While it may not be 'fashionable' or 'politically correct' to do so, we must fight this ideology. The most dangerous thing you can do is to believe it cannot be done and to do nothing to stop it. Why do you not believe something the enemy tells us with their own words? Or do you listen more to our media than to the words of our enemy?

GWB's family and friends have interests in Halliburton, one of the US armed forces biggest suppliers. It is in his interest to nurture a culture of fear, to ensure that Americans will continue to support this so called war.

Ask yourself? How many terrorists (not war criminals) has this action in Iraq flushed out? The answer is none. Bush should rename this military action to :The Push for Record Halliburton Sales"

War on terror is like the war on drugs. Both will go on forever with no satisfaction on either one.

I don't think the problem is the "war on terror".. It's the distraction in Iraq that's causing things to turn for the worse..

Joseph Stalin used the fascist, Nazi scare against his people, the same way Bush is using the overinflated, Arab, terrorist scare against the American people. It's all to fear and control.
