I just started a new job as a hostess at a restaurant and after I got home I started to cry wondering if I had made a mistake. I want to quit sooooo badly but I don't know if I should. Would it be a little rude to do so after only working there for a few days. Another problem with this is that my best friend works there too and she pretty much got me the job. I need help now. What should I do??????

I'm in high school just so you know. It's not easy. Second, my friend didn't get me the job she asked if I wanted it. I went and got interviewed but after I started (which they started me on a Friday) working with people in that type of environment just isn't for me. I really want to be a vet and applied at a doggie day care but was to young. I'm almost the right age but I really needed a job. Does that help any???

Try sending out speculative samples of work while you are still employed to get some feed back or freelance out of it. I know how competitive this area of design is and you already have a job so you must be good at it. Just see what response you get, you could be really surprised how much work you can get just by getting yourself out there. I am a graphic designer, I decided I wanted to specialise in greeting cards so I sent ideas to a few companies. Within a month I had an agent and publisher and now work full time as a freelancer. I would keep the job while finding solid contacts. Really hope your boyfriend appreciates what you are doing for him! Best of luck.

Talk to your best friend about it first. Thank her for helping you to get the position, but let her know how unhappy you are. Ask her if there would be any ill feelings if you decided to quit.
If she has a problem with it and your friendship is important to you hang in there a little longer, but let her know that you do intend to quit very soon.
Offer the restaurant two weeks notice and move on. If you really want to work, find a job doing something that you enjoy (without the help of your friends).

If you don't like the job then, by all mean, quit it. However, you should try it for a little longer than a couple of days. Your friend recommended you for the job and you owe it to her to try to stick it out. It may be that you are not accustomed to such a job and just need to relax. Being a hostess is very important. You are the first person a customer sees as they enter a restaurant and the impression you make on them is very important.

what is it about the job that is making you cry? rude customers, harassment, what? Talk to your manager and explain the problem. Perhaps he can see to it that the problem goes away. Don't just quit--that looks bad on future job applications and also reflects badly on your friend who asked for you. Then, if possible, keep working until you are eligible for the work you really want and save every possible dollar as a cushion against unexpected expenses.

I thought hostessing was soooo easy . . .
What made you break down ?
It is not a life time job . All these first jobs are short .
Seems like you are taking it like a marriage ,
And it is the wrong guy .
Since you did not provide any real details for us ,
We can't say , only you know the issues ,
( and forgot to tell us ) .

try working school or a trade into your mix and then perhaps you can get a career you will enjoy. What made you cry? and yes it would be rude #1 to your friend/ how embarassing #2 you took a job from someone who couldve used it and appreciated it

Talk to your friend and your boss about your problem. They might be able to make you feel better about the situation you're in.
