You need something that is just you. Make yourself stand out. Try colored contacts - the first thing someone notices about you is your eyes. If you pick a vibrant bold color it will make people tend to remember you more.

A great way to market yourself in acting is to be a friendly and likeable person. It's nice to go to auditions and such, but going to every audition until the end of time won't help you if you seem like a mean person.

Think about the actors you know now. Are any of them both mean and successful? Most likely not. Real life isn't like High School Musical- you have to be nice to get anywhere.

Another bit of advice is not to overact in auditions. Just be yourself. If you have a promenant Southern drawl, even for a character whom you feel must have a drawl, the auditioners might feel that such speaking patterns are unable to be changed.

The director of the play, movie, etc. must feel like you can adapt to any part, and the best way to do that is not to adapt to any until they tell you to.

Kiki is right. You have to make yourself stand out. You have to do something that is different than the majority of other actors out there. If you do the same things they do, you will just be another number.

Here are some ideas:
get together with some friends and form a theater group or company. Put on performances and invite industry professionals to come and see you.

Make your own (good quality) videos of scenes, hosting scenes, interviews you do, etc. It sounds simple, maybe too simple, but I know of people who have gotten cast to host live events and on-camera projects, based on videos they sent in to producers.

Do mass TARGETED mailings and follow up on them. To do that, you should know your type and who casts for your type. You will want to mail to agents and casting directors alike.

There are also industry showcases you can get involved in.

You have to start getting your name out there, so that people know who you are.

If you want more information, e-mail me and I can give it to you. I have all this written down on my website, but I'm not allowed to send you there from here.

Hope that helps,

Tony

Take chances! Take risks! You need to get the right people to notice you at the right time! Get creative. You'll figure it out.

Big movie going on near you? Break on to the set... Get the director a cup of coffee, pretend like you work there. Talk to the big shots, those are the ones who need to notice you. They have the influence to send you places. Leave the t.v. commercials to the amateurs. It's time for your big break. Now get to it!

People who try to be someone who is impressive almost always fail. Be yourself, completely. You are the only one who can do that best. Drop all pretense and be completely honest. It works for Anglena Jolie.
