I recently found out via a extensive geneology, that on my fathers side I am related to Jesse James(Great Uncle). Turns out that my fathers grandfather was Frank James. After I found out, I ask my dad and he is 79 now. He told me that my grandfather never talked about his dad. I ask him why and he said he just never did! I wondered after are conversation, if my dad really was not told because of WHO is grandfather was(Frank James). That leads to my question.. Who have you found out was famous, in a good or bad way in you're family tree?

The only famous one I know for sure.. 100% positive is Richard Wagner (Drunk, rather unlikable, German composer well known for not only his music but his capacity to get into debt and get thrown out of countries).. on my Maternal Grandfathers side.. On the same side there was a 15 year old girl who killed her family with an axe... but the details are sketchy and the name was blacked out of the family bible..

Most of my genes come from bootleggers and horse thieves.. and a strange pairing really.. romani (gypsy) as well.. (I was not aware of the details of this side of the family tree until about 3 years ago..)

No one else that anyone would really know by name however..

During the American Revolution, my direct ancestor lended money to fund Henry Lee and the Virginia Militia, a great deal of money. After the war, the Congress couldn't repay him so he had to sell his Virginia plantation and move to Kentucky where the Congress granted him land.
Another direct ancestor was returning to his home in Northern Virginia after serving in the Confederate Cavalry. He met two men trying to get across the Potomac river, he helped them cross, the guy limping was John Wilkes Booth.

John Wilkes Booth...dammit. On my dad's side.

For those who skipped American history on that day, he's the one who assassinated Abraham Lincoln.
