What happened? I'll tell you what happened...

...they started believing they were invincible, got pretty cocky,
and believed all the hype the New York City Sportwriters
started predicting just a month ago....

Here's the New York Post article that says...

August 26, 2007 -- MEMO to Jimmy Rollins:
The best team won. (he means the NY Mets).

"IT'S NOT OFFICIAL, BUT NL EAST RACE IS OVER"
"The NL East race is over. Though the Yankees are fighting for their playoff souls, the Mets are merrily on their way to another October."
http://www.nypost.com/seven/08262007/sports/mets/its_not_official__but_nl_east_.htm?page=0

I wonder where that Sportswriter is working tomorrow?

And just look at the irony of this famous quote...
"It ain't over 'til it's over"
(so very true...
even if it takes until the very last day of the season)
that from another New Yorker....Yogi Berra.

I don't know.
Jose Reyes stopped playing for some reason. Glavine decided to give up 7 runs in the first inning today. They stopped hitting. They sat around and did nothing all day (and for 3 weeks) when they had plenty of time and opportunity to get back into it.
They handed the Phillies the playoffs.
My only explanation is that the Mafia put a gun to someone's head and told them to start throwing it.
I'd prefer that over believing that my stupid team has no heart and no balls.

All you need to know is that the Mets made history today!!!!!!! How can you be 7 gamesin first just 2 wks ago and choked down to the end???

That is just said baseball for the Mets. As the guy up a few lines said, They been at first for a while, got lazy, and choked.

They are a huge disappointment. They got to complacent and lazy in the end and they failed to deliver when it counted. Maybe next year is all that I can say. They need to bring in some more younger guys as they are a pretty old team with the exceptions of Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran, David Wright, John Maine, and Mike Pelfrey.

I'll tell you exactly what happened! Tom Glavine got pulled in the first inning because he gave up 7 runs. It was hte first time he ever gave up 7 runs in the first inning and it was the second time he got pulled in the first inning in his whole career. Jose Reyes wasn't hustling at all. The Mets basically had bases loaded every inning and always flew out. I'm so mad!

I sympathize. The Cubs has collapsed like this before and broke my heart. Has to really really suck. I'd personally put alot of the blame on Delgado. The guy didnt show up this year for baseball. He did show up for his paycheck tho.

I agree with the first poster, the Mets got too complacent and started playing lazy sloppy baseball.

Bad coaching, too many old players, injuries, and no pitching at the end.

They got too comfortable in first place.
They got lazy.

At the end, Philadelphia wanted it more.
