Alright, you're going to want to do a few things:
First, try starting while it's still a bit light out. People start to run out of candy pretty quick these days.
Stay out late! You're bound to find those guys that have buckets of candy left at the end of the night.
Have an original costume idea!
If the house has ANY lights on, hit it!
Changing costumes isn't too bad of an idea, but changing masks is easier. Keep a few masks with you and rotate them as you make your rounds. Keep them in a small back pack with the extra candy you'll be receiving.
A similar idea is to go with a small group of buddies and swap masks. This way you don't have to carry the extras. Just make sure the costumes are simple enough to work with multiple masks.
Lastly, you can always play the sympathy card. The younger you are, the better this can work. Make the crappiest costume you can think of or make an awful attempt at an awesome idea. When you get to the houses, tell them that your parents were too poor to buy you a costume and you had to make your own. It's a cheating, I know, but there are no rules on Halloween!

I have a better idea than making double rounds.
Work a second trick-or-treater into your costume: a dead stuffed animal (you can stitch X's over the eyes, etc) with it's own halloween container, a baby buggy with a little baby monster in there holding it's own jack-o-lantern treat container, etc. If you bother to make it creative, the people will not feel sore about giving you more. You may get a few nay-sayers, but they'll be sore and stingy about handing out candy in the first place.
Whatever you do, do not use the excuse that you have a sick sibling at home and you're bringing an extra treat bag just for them. This is the lamest excuse I got from parents (of all people) last year.
Another possibility I just thought of is you can have some sort of cloak on. Get your candy then open your cloak an have something strapped to your stomach that is holding a treat little basket. (You can always just leave 3-4 candies in there and put the rest in your bag after you leave). Costumes you could do this with: alien, pregnant so-and-so, ventriloquist, etc.

Find a better neighborhood to trick or treat in.
Take entire pillowcases with you so that people aren't afraid to give you more.
Stay out a little later, like when the trick or treating has died down a little, because people will think there aren't many more kids coming and give you huge handfuls.
Go buy your own candy and put it into your bag ;D

In all my years of trick-or-treating, I found that the amount of candy I got was in direct proportion to the number of doors I knocked on.
But if you're willing to cheat to win, why not cheat all the way? Just BUY enough candy to beat the record.

You could steal other people's candy, go everywhere in the city or neighboring cities, or buy your own candy .
