Try "Night" by Eli Weisel. It's very short, and an intense and poignant story.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen-a classic romance that focuses on Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy. Possibly the best book ever written! Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella: The main character tells some secrets to a man who she is sitting next to on a plane and he ends up being the CEO of the company she works for. Another good read. Lots of people like Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella. Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin: Its about a love affair that happened between two people that have been best friends since elementary school, but they are complete opposites. One of the friends sleeps with the other’s fiancé, and now the friend has to find the line between right and wrong. It's a really good book, and there is a sequel, Something Blue. Walking in Circles before Lying Down by Merrill Markoe: I loved this book. It is about a woman who suddenly finds out she can hear dogs talk. It was a short read, and was definitely entertaining. Just Between Us by Cathy Kelly: This book follows three sisters and the mother and just goes through the troubles that they are experiencing at the time (including divorce, adultery, depression, and alcoholism). Good, but long. 13 Little Blue Envelopes by Maureen Johnson: When 17 year old Ginny receives a packet of mysterious envelopes from her favorite aunt, she leaves New Jersey to criss-cross Europe on a sort of scavenger hunt that transforms her life. The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger: You may have seen the movie with Anne Hathaway. It is about a woman who gets this job as a secretary type person who works for this evil magazine editor. It's a good book, and the movie is good too.

There's a lovely book, I think as it happens about 182 or 192 pages ;-): 'Borderlines' by Charles Nicholl. It's an excellent book about a trip he made to Thailand and Burma, published by Secker and Warburg I think in the late eighties. His other books are longer than 200pp but all excellent. Oh yes, if you want to try a selection of his shorter journalistic writing, try the collection called 'Screaming in the Castle'.

I believe the title I'm thinking of is Alex: The Life Of A Child, or something to that affect. I know the author is Frank DeFord. It's the biography of a little girl who died of cystic fibrosis, written by her father. I know it sounds sad -- and it is -- but I read it in the fifth grade and to this day (I'm a college sophomore) images from it have stayed with me. Very powerful read.
