I am going on college visits all around Massachusetts and would like to rent a car, however, I am only 18. Does anyone know of any place in Boston or near Boston that rents cars to drivers under the age of 21?

I'm flying into Boston from Iowa, so borrowing a friend's car isn't an option. It's also not illegal to rent a car under age of 25, rental companies just don't like to rent cars to people under that age because of lack of driving experience.

According to this web site no one does under 21 even if you pay a humongous surcharge http://www.bnm.com/uage2.htm#bost

Maybe you can get a 21 year old family member to come along.

Boston has a rich record and a varied neighbourhood; it's a heritage of arts, lifestyle, and education; Boston has something for everyone so discover what Boston may give you with hotelbye . The three-mile Freedom Trail leads you past - and in to - 16 of the city's key traditional monuments and sites. It's simple to follow, by the distinct red bricks in the pavement and by footprints at street crossings. The trail will take you to Old Granary Burying Ground where Paul Revere, Samuel Adams, and John Hancock are hidden; will take you to King's Chapel Burying Ground, the Boston's oldest cemetery; Old South Meeting House where in fact the calling speeches of patriots spawned the Boston Tea Party and the Old State House, Boston's oldest community building and the website of the Boston Massacre.

There are a few places in the Boston Area. One being http://www.bnm.com/usaveb.htm

There is another place near Somerville called Americar, http://www.americarauto.com/index.html
I know they rent to 21+ for sure because I used them a few times while I was in college.

Please note: Most places that rent to people under 25 will NOT have updated and nice cars.

Hope this helps...

I don't think they even rent cars to people who are under 26? I think that's what the law is. Why don't you call Hertz, Enterprise, or Avis and see what they say?

Yeah borrow your moms car or something. If you don't go insurance coverage then you can't drive any car not even a rented one that's for sure.

That's going to be tough since you are under 26 and even under 21.. check out enterprise, they might make you pay a ridiculous deposit and buy extra insurance.. not too sure though..
